How to reach HERAKLION - CRETE

By air:

There is a considerable number of flights daily (10-20 depending on the season) connecting Heraklion International Airport ("Nikos Kazantzakis", airport Code: HER) with the Athens International Airport "Eleftherios Venizelos" (ATH). There are also direct connections from Heraklion to various Greek islands as well as to major European cities. Aegean Air and Olympic Air are the major carriers to Athens.

There are three ferry lines going daily between Athens (Departure from Piraeus Port) and Heraklion:

During summer, Minoan Lines and ANEK lines introduce daily routes but these are not available every day.

 

How to reach FORTH

The Foundation for Research and Technology - Hellas (FORTH) is situated 10 km southwest from Downtown Heraklion. Please find below how to get to FORTH:.

A. BY BUS

There is one bus route to and from FORTH (ITE in Greek) several times per day:

a. From Heraklion city center to FORTH:
The most convenient taxi queue is at "Eleftheria's Square" ("Platia Eleftherias" in Greek).
A taxi ride takes about 20-30 minutes and costs approximately € 12

b. From airport to FORTH:
Taxi service is provided just outside the airport.
A taxi ride takes about 15-25 minutes and costs approximately € 18
