On Monday 22nd of March 2010, 18:00 hrs, at the FORTH Amphitheatre in Heraklion (Crete), Dr. Peter Freeman will give the 2nd lecture in the context of "Stelios Orphanoudakis" Distinguished Lecture series. This year, the Lecture is in the area of Computer Science, Information and Communications Technologies, and is entitled:
"The Interaction of Science and Society as Illustrated by the Internet"

This year's award for Excellence in Academic Teaching in memory of V. Xanthopoulos and St. Pneumatikos will be given to the Professor of Mathematics at the University of Crete, Dr. Souzanna Papadopoulou.

The "Onassis Series of Lectures in Immunobiology", seeks to provide an overview of major advances and evolving concepts in the field while at the same highlighting their relevance to health and disease.

The EU cyber security Agency; ENISA (European Network and Information Security Agency) and the Institute of Computer Science of the Foundation for Research and Technology - Hellas (ICS-FORTH) organise their 2nd Summer School on Network and Information Security (NIS'09). This year's theme is "Privacy and Trust in a Networked World". It will take place in Crete, Greece, 14th-18th September 2009.

PRAXI HELP-FORWARD Network (Δϊκτυο ΠΡΑΞΗ) and the Hellenic Bio Cluster (HBio) are organising a Greek industry - academia partnering event in Athens, on 16 July 2009.

A network of scientists led by the Foundation of Research & Technology - Hellas (FORTH), Greece, have been awarded a grant from the European Commission Seventh Framework Program, aiming to increase our understanding of how chronic inflammation in the body can lead to cancer. It is anticipated that this research program, code-named INFLA-CARE, for Inflammation and Cancer Research in Europe, will also lead to the development of novel approaches for the treatment and improved management of inflammation-associated malignancies, such as liver and colon cancer.

TECHNART 2009 is co-organized by the Institute of Nuclear Physics at NCSR "Demokritos" and IESL-FORTH and its goal to provide a scientific forum to present and promote the use of analytical spectroscopy techniques in the field of Cultural Heritage.
