Hackathon for Health and Wellness Crete 2024
The Region of Crete, the Science and Technology Park of Crete/FORTH, the University of Crete, the Athens Startup Business Incubator (Th.E.A.) of the Athens Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the European Digital Innovation Hub for Smart Health: Precision Medicine and Innovative e-Health Services (smartHEALTH), and the European Digital Innovation Hub for Digital Governance (GR digiGOV-innoHUB) are co-organizing a Hackathon Competition, aiming at highlighting innovative ideas in the theme of “Health and Wellness”.

The 160th Conference of the Council of the Directors and Presidents of the Greek Research Centers and Technological Institutions was held on Monday, April 15, 2024, on the premises of FORTH, under the chairmanship of FORTH’s President, Prof. Nektarios Tavernarakis, who serves as Coordinator for the first semester of 2024.

The project PROTEAS was implemented in the framework of the action RESEARCH - CREATE - INNOVATE and was co-funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) of the European Union and national resources through the Competitiveness, Entrepreneurship & Innovation Programme (EPANEK) (project code: T2EDK-02428).

Of bantam brains and fancy footwork: bioinformatics tools help reveal complexity of avian evolution
In 2014 the Science journal featured an article on the bird tree of life, mentioning the essential role of algorithms and supercomputers that enable modern research in evolutionary biology for all types of living beings. Now, a decade and a giant leap in tool development later, part of the team that coordinated the computer analyses at that time co-authored another paper in Nature on the complexity of avian evolution.
Conference Innovation in Grete 5.0 and Workshop-Bootcamp "Match & Develop a startup 5.0 Heraklion"
These two major events took place under the auspices of the Region of Crete, on Thursday 28 and Friday 29 March 2024, in Heraklion, Crete, at the Heraklion Chamber of Commerce & Industry and on the premises of the Foundation for Research and Technology - Hellas (FORTH).
The first event was a two-day Conference on Innovation, entitled “Innovation Crete 5.0: Innovation in Crete today and the institutions that support it", which was organized for the 5th time this year, on 28 & 29 March at 17:00 at the Heraklion Chamber of Commerce & Industry.

In an article published recently at the high-impact journal Nature Communications, researchers from NKUA, FORTH-IMBB, and Harvard University, led by Prof. Aristides Eliopoulos of NKUA and postdoctoral researcher Dr. Zoe Veneti of FORTH-IMBB, reveal a new mechanism that regulates the proliferation and differentiation of intestinal stem cells.
CINVESTAV, the largest Research Organization of Mexico, visits FORTH, in the presence of Mexico’s Ambassador in Greece
