Public Outreach Event: “Precision Medicine in modern life”

The Institute of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology (IMBB) of FORTH organized an open event in the framework of the Celebrations of the 40th anniversary of FORTH, which took place on Friday, June 9, 2023, at the Heraklion Chamber.

The aim of the event was to familiarize the public with a new medical approach that combines patient care and cure with each individual’s genetic background.

Talks:

19:00 – 19:20: Konstantinos Stratakis, Research Director at IMBB-FORTH, Human Genetics and Precision Medicine Laboratory, Scientific Director of the DIGENIA Unit.

19:20 – 19:40: Nektarios Tavernarakis, Professor of Molecular Systems Biology at the Medical School of the University of Crete & Chairman of the Board of Directors of FORTH.

"Neurodegenerative Diseases and Alzheimer: The Pandemic of the 21st Century"

19:40 – 20:00: Sofia Angelaki, Professor of Pathological Oncology at the Medical School of the University of Crete.

"The role of Precision Medicine in the prevention and treatment of cancer"

20:00 – 20:20: Achilleas Gravanis, Professor of Pharmacology at the Medical School of the University of Crete, Collaborative Researcher, IMBB-FORTH.

"Pharmacology of the Future: Genes, Cells, Tissues, Nanodevices. The new drugs."

20:20 – 20:40: Stylianos Antonarakis, Professor of Genetic Medicine, University of Geneva Medical School.
