Lecture by Antonis Anastasopoulos, Yannis Spyropoulos and Petros Kastrinakis
The Municipality of Rethymnon and the Institute for Mediterranean Studies (IMS) of the Foundation for Research and Technology-Hellas (FORTH) are organizing for the year 2025 a series of lectures addressed to the general public of Rethymnon. In these talks, open to everyone, the Institute's researchers will present elements of their research work in an accessible way, followed by a discussion. The events will take place at the Institute for Mediterranean Studies in the old town, 130 Nikiforou Fokas and Melissinou.
The sixth lecture titled "Crete in the Ottoman Era", will take place on Monday, December 15, 2025 at 19.30 by:
- Antonis Anastasopoulos, Associate Professor at the University of Crete and Collaborating Faculty member of of IMS-FORTH:“The Perishable and the Eternal: Muslim Funerary Steles from Ottoman Crete”
- Yiannis Spyropoulos, Principal Researcher at IMS-FORTH: “Sfakia on the Eve of 1821: The Perspective of Ottoman Sources”
- Petros Kastrinakis, Postdoctoral Researcher at IMS-FORTH: “The Port City of Chania in the 19th Century”
