The Invisible Universe and Citizen Science
On Friday, August 29, 2025, at 20:00, a public outreach event took place at the Science & Cultural Center of FORTH (Zografou & Averof, Heraklion).
The event was organized within the framework of the radio astronomy educational program “RADIIO”, coordinated by the Institute for Astronomy, Astrophysics, Space Applications and Remote Sensing of the National Observatory of Athens (IAASARS/NOA), in collaboration with the Institute of Astrophysics of the Foundation for Research and Technology – Hellas (IA-FORTH).
The keynote speaker, Dr. Eleni Vardoulaki, Astrophysicist at NOA and National Representative to the International Astronomical Union (IAU) Committee for Astronomy Education, presented a talk entitled: “The Invisible Universe and Citizen Science”
Through this talk, the audience was guided on a fascinating journey into the “invisible” Universe, discovering how modern astronomy explores phenomena beyond human sight and how Citizen Science initiatives allow the public to actively contribute to cutting-edge scientific research.
Following the talk, an interactive astronomy quiz was held by Panagiotis Evangelopoulos (IA-FORTH) and Dr. Eleni Vardoulaki, offering participants a fun and engaging opportunity to test their astronomy knowledge and learn more about the cosmos.
The event was open to the public and suitable for audiences of all ages with an interest in astronomy and science.
