Successful completion of the 3rd Match & Develop a Startup Heraklion, investigating local business collaborations with research teams and Startups of Crete

The 3rd four-day bootcamp “Match & Develop a Startup Heraklion 3.0”, held on 7-8 and 15-16 February 2020 at H2B HUB andatthe premises of the Foundation for Research and Technology-Hellas (FORTH) at Vasilika Vouton - Heraklion, was successfully completed.

The event was held in the context of the NBG Business Seeds programme of the National Bank of Greece in collaboration with FORTH’s Praxi Network, the H2B HUB, the Bizrupt Lab and the Science and Technology Park of Crete (STEP-C), the Athens Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation (ACEin) of the Athens University of Economics, the Archimedes Centre of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, theUni.fund, Metavallon and Bayer. The purpose of the event was to provide support on entrepreneurship matters for teams that participated in the 10th Innovation and Technology Competition by NBG, for research teams coming from Research and Educational Institutions of Crete and for local business teams.

The aim of the event was to help participating teams, using targeted consultation mentoring and networking actions, to develop their business plans and acquire promotion and networking skills. Acclaimed professionals gave lectures on Lean Startup methodology, Marketing issues, Legal issues, Intellectual Property issues, Business Analytics and Pitching issues and on security issues.

The four-day event was attended by 17 teams with 35 members in total. The teams were mentored by business and organisation executives from the National Bank, Bayer Hellas, Uni.fund, Metavallon, Chalkiadakis S.A. Phaistos Networks, SYFAK, Hellenic Chamber of Hotels, American - Hellenic Chamber of Commerce, Innobatics, H2B HUB, Praxi Network and the Heraklion Chamber. In these meetings, business executives showed keen interest for the new ideas and many meetings have been scheduledto extend possible collaborations.

In the presentations session, at the end of the event, the research team of the Center for eHealth Applications and Services of FORTH’s Institute of Computer Science stood out with its proposal “Time is Brain”, which immediately qualified for the 2nd Phase of the 11th Innovation Competition of the NBG. Bayer Hellas offered to 3 teams the opportunity to participate in specific workshops it organises to promote and support innovative ideas; Praxi Network offered innovation potential assessment services to 2 teams as well as assessment of the maturity for digital reformation; two of the participating teams were invited for inclusion in the H2B HUB to receive development supporting services; the Economic Chamber of East Crete offered the preparation of a financial and technical study to 2 teams, while the Science and Technology Park of Crete (STEP-C) offered the ability to gain international business experience to two participating teams, via the Erasmus for Young Entrepreneurs programme. Furthermore, free mass email services were offered by Apifon as well as free Amazon and Geekbot services.
