Dr. Panayiota Poirazi, Principal Researcher of the Institute of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology (IMBB / FORTH) has become a member of AcademiaNet after nomination by the European Molecular Biology Organization (EMBO).

AcademiaNet launched in 2010, is an initiative of the Robert Bosch Stiftung in cooperation with Spektrum der Wissenschaft and Nature as well as respected partners from academia and the business community. AcademiaNet gives a web presence to high-achieving female scientists, making them visible to conference-programme committees seeking female speakers, journalists seeking experts to quote, head-hunters seeking board members and the like.

The established partners from the business and scientific communitiesvouch for the outstanding qualifications of the women academics and scientists in AcademiaNet. The selection criteria unite the outstanding scientific qualifications, academic credentials and independent leadership activities of the nominated academics, as well as further supporting criteria.

Dr. Panayiota Poirazi has been nominated by the European Molecular Biology Organization (EMBO) - a qualified partner - to join AcademiaNet. Dr. Poirazi is the Group leader of the Computational Biology Laboratoryat IMBB-FORTH, which performs research that is at the forefront of Computational Neuroscience. The work of Dr. Poirazi led to several high impact publications, some of which have shaped the field of dendritic computations. This work received prestigious awards, including the EMBO Young Investigator Award in 2005, 2 Marie Curie Fellowships and the European Research Council (ERC) starting grant in 2012.
