INNOVATING THE HERITAGE RESEARCH SECTOR – PARTHENOS BEGINS ITS WORK

Florence, the cradle of the Renaissance, will host the kick-off meeting of the international project PARTHENOS

The official kick-off of the international project PARTHENOS, funded within Horizon 2020, the EU Framework Programme for Research and Innovation, will take place on Friday, 3rd of July 2015 in the Salone dei Dugento, one of the historical halls of the iconic Palazzo Vecchio in Florence.

The project’s name stands for Pooling Activities, Resources and Tools for Heritage E-research Networking, Optimization and Synergies. Its acronym is inspired by Athena Parthenos, the Greek goddess of wisdom, civilization and inspiration.

It aims to support the efforts of several EU projects in the domain of cultural heritage, digital humanities, linguistics, history and archaeology. The output of PARTHENOS’ four years of activity will encourage a smarter, more efficient approach to research for the communities involved in the domains targeted by the project. The goal of PARTHENOS is to create a common ecosystem to support Humanities, Language and Cultural Heritage Research through smart and innovative tools, and to facilitate the use of digital technologies and methods in the sector.

The consortium behind the project, led by PIN Scrl - Educational and Scientific Services for the University of Florence in Italy, is composed of 15 partners from 9 European countries and includes the two European Research Infrastructures on Digital Humanities (DARIAH) and Linguistics (CLARIN).

The PARTHENOS kick off meeting will take place within the broader context of the event “European Research Infrastructures for Heritage Science”, organized in collaboration with the Horizon2020 project IperionCH.
