Best Student Research Paper Award at the 23rd European Signal Processing Conference (EUSIPCO 2015) to researchers of the Institute of Computer Science of FORTH
Anastasios Alexandridis, PhD Candidate at the University of Crete and member of the Signal Processing Laboratory of the Institute of Computer Science (ICS), Foundation for Research and Technology-Hellas (FORTH), received the Best Student Paper Award at the 23rd European Signal Processing Conference (EUSIPCO 2015, Nice, France 31st August - 4th September 2015), as the first author of the paper entitled "Addressing the data-association problem for multiple sound source localization using DOA estimates."
The research results presented in this paper consider the use of a wireless acoustic sensor network for estimating the locations of multiple sound sources, e.g., multiple speakers, that are active in an environment. Each sensor of such network consists of multiple microphones and can perform locally limited signal processing and communication functionalities. Each sensor estimates some local information about the active sound sources and transmits it to a central node that performs the localization task. The localization method proposed in this paper can accurately estimate the locations of up to three simultaneous sound sources, while it does not require the signals from different sensors to be synchronized, alleviating an important constraint for real-life applications.
The paper's authors are the graduate students of University of Crete: Anastasios Alexandridis and Giorgos Borboudakis, and Associate Professor Athanasios Mouchtaris, all members of the Signal Processing Laboratory of FORTH-ICS.
